Lacked character development. And like what someone else commented, comes off as whiny and I also don't get the write up at the Globe and Mail and all the publicity this got. It was a tedious read.

Pointless story. First half was intriguing enough but second half of story didn't progress or move along. So didn't finish the book as apparently heroine wasn't heroic enough (to kill someone) per 'the Powers That Be' and that was the only requirement to save the world.Pointless story. Louise Penny does it again. It may be set in Paris but all the characters are so human and flawed and kind and brave. I love them. How does she come up with a suspenseful plot each time, each story fresh? I couldn't put the book down. Louise has raised my reading standards that books by other authors aren't good enough.Louise Penny does it again. Would not want to spend time with any of the married couples here in real life so I also didn't want to waste my precious free time listening to (reading) them or their thoughts. Storytelling was also more of a gossipy approach which to me is tiresome.Would not want to spend time with any of the married couples here in real life so I also didn't want to waste my precious free time listening to (reading) them or their thoughts. Too easy to figure out whodunit at too early a stage in the book. Everything else is just everyone else speculating and gossiping. Wouldn't recommend.

Couldn't get into the book because of the writing. When I switched to reading it with television's Closed Captioning voice, that was when I got into it. Not a very nice voice in my head.
