Starts off as a promising look at the draconian "three strikes" laws that put minor offenders in prison for decades, and Ethan Hawke continues crushing it on his late-career renaissance, but as soon as he finds the baby in the dumpster the script goes from grounded social drama to having a character act like a complete idiot for the sake of advancing the plot. A couple more drafts could have fixed things, because there is a solid redemption story buried here and the ending is great, but the film is broken and bafflingly goofy in its current form. I did really dig Jason Isbell's score though. It's moody, and often overpowering in a way that gives some of the scenes a really cool vibe.
