Novelist Jane Austen + Director Whit Stillman = witty and winning combination! If you don't like Jane Austen, you won't like this, but if you do, don't miss it! It's based on Austen's novella, Lady Susan, and although, admittedly, it is not Austen's best work, it still offers up the sharp but accurate Austen commentary on just how silly, virtuous, obtuse, and generous human beings can be. I especially enjoyed the the reunion of Kate Beckinsale and Chloe Sevigny, who made Stillman's "The Last Days of Disco" so memorable. If you like smart dialogue, period pieces, and a bit of romance, try this! Then follow it up with full Stillman treatment: Metropolitan, Barcelona, and The Last Days of Disco.
