When a worldwide epidemic kills many adults and leaves the rest in a zombielike state, everyone below the epidemic's cutoff age (16 in the US edition, 14 in the UK edition) Form bands and try to survive. Arran leads a group of kids who live inside a fortified Waitrose supermarket, but the adults are getting smarter and more and more of the kids are being picked off one by one. Then, Jester arrives at the Waitrose. He claims that there is a large group of kids in Buckinham Palace. Meanwhile, Small Sam- assumed to be dead after being kidnapped by adults- makes his way back the Waitrose. The Waitrose Group meets another group of kids along the way to the palace, who join them. Following the Waitrose group’s quest to get to Buckingham Palace and Small Sam’s attempt to find them, The Enemy is an interesting novel. It is followed by The Dead (a prequel set a year before), The Fear (starting just before the Dead ends) and The Sacrifice (set after the Enemy). There are another 3 planned books in the series.
