I could not get into this, in part because of the psychotherapist's continued and unironic use of the word "mad" as in "crazy". I know it's fiction, but as a mental health practitioner myself, it felt so overdramatic and not true to life. I ended up being unable to finish the book, but looked up the rest of the plot out of curiosity. I'm glad I didn't finish it.

An outstanding read. The characters are well developed over the entire span of the book. The twists and turns are unexpected. The ending is totally unexpected. For thriller readers, The Silent Patient is a must read.

A most interesting book! The author is able to grab one and immerse them into the book quickly. Couldn't put it down and the ending totally surprised me. Very good book!

What a perfectly crafted twisted story.

Plot driven psychological thriller about an artist who murders her husband (and mysteriously refuses to speak) and a psychotherapist who is very determined to uncover the mystery. It's a perfectly executed thriller with a big plot twist at the end, but I found it a bit dull mostly because all of the characters are poorly developed (this one is all about the plot). I suspect this would make a better movie than a book.

A gripping, twisting story that actually caught me off-guard, but events and characterization are left so underdeveloped as to detract noticeably from the reading experience. I somehow skipped seven chapters and didn't question my confusion until I was three-fourths through the book. This was mostly possibly because the chapters (and conversations and internal monologues) were so clipped that I didn't have a deep understanding of or attachment to them. So unfortunate! With greater length and substance, this could have been a special book.

Let me just say the premise of this book is Alicia Berenson kills her husband, and then becomes completely mute. LIKE WHAT. Alicia is then admitted into a psychiatric hospital where she talks to no one and leaves her husband’s murder a complete mystery. Theo Faber is a psychotherapist that is determined to figure out this mysterious murder. Little does Theo know, there is A LOT to unpack in this case. I will say it is a slow burn, but when you get to the last third, you can’t put it down. This was a rollercoaster ride I wasn’t for and honestly the complexities of it took me a moment to realize all that was being uncovered. If you are looking for a real psychological thriller, give this one a go and I promise you won’t see the end coming

I found this a good quick absorbing read. I selected it as it often appears on recommended reading lists and I can see why. A few discrepancies in storytelling detract from an otherwise great book with the ultimate twist saved to the end.

Loved it! A wonderfully written thriller that pulls you in from the start and ends with an absolute shock. Everything you could want in a fast mystery read.

A quick read. Chapters are short and the story moves quickly. A good psychological thriller. The author has a strong understanding of what makes people/characters act they way they do. The undercurrent of the story is how the things in our childhood have shaped us into our adult selves.
