In the book “Henna Wars” by Adiba Jaigirdar, Nishat, who
is from Bangladesh, struggles with her sexuality and what decisions to make in order not to lose her friends and family. It becomes difficult when she meets Flavia, who Nishat falls for right away. But it isn’t a smooth ride from there. A school business competition
will bring problems as both Nishat and Flavia will decide to create henna businesses. So, throughout the competition, Nishat needs to decide whether to ignore her feelings for her family’s sake or get over her problems with Flavia and to try dating her. With
many factors playing a part, such as Flavia’s “business partner” being Nishat’s childhood friend who dropped her and Nishat’s relationship with her friends being tested, it is not an easy time for Nishat. Although, by the end of the book, she knows her choice
and is ready to act on it.

For me, I thought this book was very sweet and very
educational as well. It really opened my eyes to the struggles and that both people of color and those part of the LGBTQ+ community go through. This book isn’t something I’d usually read, but by the end of it, I was glad I had given it a chance. I believe
this book would be a good read for girls going through things similar to Nishat, as it isn’t easy dealing with your sexuality all alone. The book did veer off the main storyline a bit, but other than that, it was a very nice read. I really liked how I got
to learn about other cultures such as Bangladeshi and Brazilian culture. Overall, this book was a pleasant read.

This was such an unputdownable book. I read it in one sitting. I cannot believe how amazing this book is. We definitely need more books about girls like this. Wow. I totally recommend this!!!!
