"It took me a lifetime to have the courage and the clarity to write my memoir. I want to tell the story of the moments - the ups and downs, the triumphs and traumas, the debacles and the dreams, that contributed to the person I am today. Though there have been countless stories about me throughout my career and very public personal life, it's been impossible to communicate the complexities and depths of my experience in any single magazine article or a ten-minute television interview. And even then, my words were filtered through someone else's lens, largely satisfying someone else's assignment to define me. This book is composed of my memories, my mishaps, my struggles, my survival and my songs. Unfiltered. I went deep into my childhood and gave the scared little girl inside of me a big voice. I let the abandoned and ambitious adolescent have her say, and the betrayed and triumphant woman I became tell her side. Writing this memoir was incredibly hard, humbling and healing. My sincere hope is that you are moved to a new understanding, not only about me, but also about the resilience of the human spirit. Love, Mariah"--Jacket.

I enjoyed reading this memoir more than I thought I would. It is written quite well, and it is interesting to read about Mariah's life. I didn't realize how much she had to deal with to get to where she is today. I wonder what an impartial author would say about her though...Anyway, it's an easy read, and if you are a fan of hers, you will enjoy it.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. It kept my attention all the way from beginning to end. It is extremely well written and I could actually see and feel what she was going through with her difficulties. She rose above all the obstacles and is now ver successful. I wish she continues to be happy and that the faith she has will grow stronger and deeper.

I totally expected this to be lighter than it was -- and while Ms. Carey is good at providing levity (she has a great sense of humour), The Meaning of Mariah Carey provided a lot of depth and insight. I knew MC had a rough childhood, but she really brought to the forefront her struggles as a bi-racial child and exposed interfamilial dynamics around her "passing" (meaning being able to "pass" as a White person, unlike her darker-skinned brother and sister). I feel like she could explore that issue alone in a whole other book. This was a fascinating peek into her character, even though it didn't bring the juicy-juice gossip that I look for in entertainment memoirs.

I grew up listening to Mariah Carey, and so often during my childhood, it was just me alone in a room with her music. I'll always love Mariah Carey, because her voice saved me from so many things.

Best entertainer biography I've read. Everything that is happening now in popular music/R & B/Top 40 began with Mariah Carey. Many of today's pop starlets could not carry bags for Ms. Carey.
