An overlooked bitter sweet Christmas movie.
At times a screwball comedy and at others a sentimental heart tugger but as per Preston Sturges in snaps back to reality at the end.
Well worth watching, just take the film as it comes and enjoy it.

Good old movie - worth watching.

This is an overlooked Christmas gem! If you like old movies with lots of heart and cheesy schmaltz, look no further. McMurray and Stanwyck have undeniable chemistry and the supporting cast is full of lovable, goofy characters. Every time I watch it I love it even more.

Is there no end to the absolutely idiotic story-lines of vintage Hollywood screwball Rom-Coms!!??

Here in 1940's "Remember The Night" you will not believe the utter asininity that the scriptwriters stooped to in order to get a guy and a gal of completely conflicting professions and lifestyles to fall madly in love with each other (set against the greatest odds ever imagined possible).

Yes. I do fully realize that the Hays Code was in effect during this particular era in Hollywood movie-making history - But, that doesn't excuse (for even a minute) the ludicrous romantic garbage that "Remember The Night" tried to shove down this viewer's throat.

IMO - All of the actors who starred in this total crap movie should have been completely ashamed of themselves for being a part of this despicable nonsense. They really should.

VERY GOOD 1940 Xmas Romance film with very young (and handsome) Fred MacMurray and beautiful Barbara Stanwyck (in fab hats plus). Fun to see Sterling Holloway in an early side role.
Film is an Interesting peek into America of earlier times.

The greatest Christmas movie ever! Preston Sturges' words, Barbara Stanwick's wit. Fred McMurray-so sexy-who knew? Warm and wise without the usual XMAS goo.

This is a 1940 American romantic comedy directed by Mitchell Leisen.
The film was written by the supposedly great comic screenwriter Preston Sturges, but I think there are several flaws in it.
First of all, how come the assistant district attorney keeps a petty shoplifter at his place when she's bailed out of jail?
I can hardly believe this.
Secondly, although this is a kind of comedy, her defense lawyer looks and acts foolishly in court like a third-rated actor.
It is a pity for the director to use such a good-for-nothing actor.
Thirdly, a petty shoplifter just doesn't fit in a posh restaurant on the Fifth Avenue when he invites for dinner.
Besides, she acts and talks like a countess---far from a petty shoplifter.
After all, the whole flick is in an unbelievable and ridiculous situation.
Even with a willing suspension of disbelief, I had to quit viewing halfway through.

This was a wonderful, heart-warming movie. Barbara Stanwyck plays a shoplifter who is caught stealing an expensive bracelet. Fred MacMurray plays the assistant district attorney who is sent to prosecute her. In a tactic to take the wind out of her lawyer's sails, MacMurray moves for a recess of the trial until after Christmas. Then he feels guilty that Stanwyck will be in jail over the holidays, and arranges to get her out on bail. Then, when she has nowhere to go, she ends up spending the holidays with him and his family in Indiana and they fall in love.
