Buckle your seatbelt for the first-ever follow up to Ian Fleming's only children's story. When the Tooting family finds an old engine and fits it to their camper van, they have no idea what kind of adventure lies ahead. The engine used to belong to an extraordinary car...and it wants its bodywork back! But as the Tootings hurtle across the world rebuilding the original Chitty, a sinister baddie is on their trail—one who will stop at nothing to get the magnificent car for himself. Fueled by wry humor, this much-anticipated sequel to the children's classic by Ian Fleming, creator of James Bond—featuring a contemporary family and a camper van with a mind of its own—is driven by best-selling, award-winning author Frank Cottrell Boyce and revved up by Joe Berger's black-and-white illustrations.

"She wasn't just a car. She was a mechanical mystery."

This book is full of humor, adventure, and mystery. What could be better? Well, a flying car, of course! It's a great, fun read for those elementary kids reading chapter books.

There's a cliffhanger at the end when we discover Chitty's time travel feature! I'm looking forward to the next in this series from one of my favorite authors.

"The Tooting family is in a bit of a lull - Dad has just been laid off from his job, and Mum, in an attempt to keep him occupied, has brought home a beat-up old camper van for him to tinker with. But after Mr. Tooting and his son Jem pull a strange old engine out of a tree in the junkyard and install it in the van, not only does the van come to life - it starts to fly! As the flying van whisks the entire family off on a quest, its history begins to come to light (but, as this is just the 1st of a planned new series, the fun is only beginning). Based on the beloved children's classic Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, this high-energy, hilarious adventure is a blast whether or not you've heard of or read the original." I really liked this book and I like how the author uses reference to the first one. The thing I didn't like though is that there could have been more to the ending. It didn't tell what happened next.

"Out of the exhaust pipes, there came four noises-very loud-CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG!"
