In Victorian London, young Clara (Mackenzie Foy) looked forward to her first Christmas without her late mother with nothing but bitterness. However, she couldn't have expected that her mum's last gift--a mystical egg-shaped box--would lead her into an otherworldly land populated by fairies and living toys, and a power struggle with the mysterious Mother Ginger (Helen Mirren).

I thought there was no way to do an interesting new take on this classic story-Wrong! I thoroughly enjoyed the action and the four fantastical realms created from the major dance themes of the ballet.

Exciting movies with several twists and turns! Surprisingly good movie! Lots of action!

I love the nutcracker and I loved picking out all the pieces/scenes from the ballet in this movie. I started watching this knowing it wasn't the exact same story as the ballet (honestly, what would have been the point of that? No movie could do the ballet's story better than the ballet itself) so I was able to really enjoy it. Great movie.

great movie. But a little sad.And its different from the original nutcracker.
5 star movie,I'd recommend it.

This is not a nutcracker ballet movie. It is a fantasy story very loosely and I do mean loosely related to the nutcracker theme. If you are expecting it to be a nutcracker musical you will be very disappointed. If you watch it as a fantasy movie and try to enjoy it for what it is, you may be pleasantly surprised. It is a feel good family movie with a very simplistic plot that seems to be written for children and those adults that enjoy some entertainment of a far simpler time.

I don't understand all the negativity that was heaped on this film. I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this. First, the story is not the traditional Nutcracker story. It is based on another story completely but I think this led to disappointment for many people because it wasn't what they expected. For me, I just enjoyed a story I didn't already know. The movie is just beautiful to watch. The costumes and sets are just gorgeous and they alone really elevated the movie for me. I also thought Mackenzie Foy was very compelling and appealing as the lead in this. I also thought her character was very brave, capable and strong and I like movies with strong female leads. The storyline itself was kind of odd and there were some head-scratching bits, I agree. The dialogue was clunky sometimes. But overall I thought it was a fun fantasy-adventure and I enjoyed it for what it was.

Visually stunning, with a great cast, but a very boring story with no chemistry between the characters. The only interesting things were the Mouse King, the mid-film ballet segment and the ballet/modern dance featured during the closing credits. Pre-schoolers might enjoy the colour and costumes, but anybody over 8 years old would be bored stiff. It was a complete waste of a stellar cast.

too boring, i couldn't finish the movie.

Disappointing. Not very much to do with the original Nutcracker. This is more like Clara in Wonderland. Creative colorful sets and beautiful costumes but the acting is so so and the plot is only fair. But it is not going to offend anyone and is suitable for children or adults.

Fun, imaginative.
