Mildly entertaining but I found it to be choppy and not greatly executed. I think the main actress was weak as an actress and they had her make too many mistakes. She was the largest threat and yet the bad guys would have her in a situation where they could just snuff her out and they do not.

I've watched the three originals in the series with Noomi Rapace (Swedish version) and the three American versions with Rooney Mara (which I hated).
This is a sequel and I enjoyed it much more than the first three films in the storyline. They were just too graphic. This was lighter but with a lot more action and some cool scenes.
If you like action-adventure you'll like the snare scene, the lake scene, the explosion scene, the bridge scene, and the jump scene. ;)

I agree it is not as good as the others in the series but still worth the watch. One of the perks w/renting these movies are all the extras.

Wow, didn't recognize Claire Foy until much later. Awesome performance, great movie, amazing plot. Absolutely enjoyed watching this from beginning to end.

Simply terrible.

I thought it was quite good

This is the weakest link in the series. Too many plot holes and not very true to the original books/movies.

Really wasn't worth the wait. Had some good scenes with a lot of bad ones. Not the best of actors and actresses. Story line was a good one. Could have been a whole lot better if they could have put more money into making this movie.

I haven't read the books, but I'm a big fan of the original Swedish movies, and this continuation was a big disappointment. The book sounds like it kept the backstory the same, but this movie completely messes it up. My main complaints are... (SOME SPOILERS)

1. The actor who played Blomkvist was way too young. He's supposed to be 10-15 years older than Lisbeth, maybe even 20 years older.
2. Millennium Magazine was not "made famous" by Lisbeth. It was already big before she came along, but it was in jeopardy because of Blomkvist's legal troubles.
3. Lisbeth wasn't raised by her father. She was raised by her mother, in hiding, then wound up becoming a ward of the state after she tried to kill her father.
4. I highly doubt that Lisbeth would be that careless with a heavily encrypted government file. She would have moved it to an external memory device or an airgapped computer. And she certainly wouldn't let a kid who's hiding with her have access to a cell phone.

Don't waste your time with this one. Watch the original Swedish movies instead.

Great cast and just enjoy the ride. My only gripe would be that Claire Foy's Swedish accent slipped a number of times into the very British Queen from The Crown. Enjoyed all the high-tech without getting bogged down in details. Unlike others, I haven't seen the other movies in the series and haven't read the books so maybe this is why I haven't been as critical as others but I felt this was worth seeing.

What happens to the quotes?

The attacker's M.O. matches that of Lisbeth Salander, a local hacker with a history of aggravated assault. If my daughter and I had a message for her... I just want to say, whoever you are, thank you.
When our loved ones die, we tell our friends.
-There's an incorrect assumption in that statement.
She worked for my father for years. He was a psychopath. Turns out... she was the same. I'm glad they're both dead.

What am I looking for?
-The sum of all my sins. A 2725 byte piece of software. It's a single-incident file. It can't be reproduced, copied, only moved.
Take military systems, for example. Since 9/11, all global defense systems
are controlled by satellite networks, and such networks are all protected by the same quantum encryption protocol. A tool of the kind we're discussing here could effortlessly access the tactical and nuclear arsenals of most major world powers. Via his personal computer, a single user would be imbued with God-like power.
Special Division doesn't mean you're actually special.
-I think it does.
"Special Division." Is that an American euphemism for "no accountability and no oversight"?
-I don't know. Um... I mean, I'm feeling pretty overseen right now.

Look, am I being deported?
-No. No. For now, you're just getting this.
A tourist guide?
- If you engage in any activities not listed in that book, I'll have you arrested and put on the first plane back to Washington.
She doesn't have the monopoly on guilt. You should be looking for this man, too.
-What makes you think I'm not?
Mikael. There were two key stories that made your name and built the magazine. The first you couldn't have written without her, and the second was about her. I think you are scared what would become of Mikael Blomkvist if there were no Lisbeth Salander.
Maybe you misspelled it, but isn't otravitel Russian crime slang for "poisoner"?

You're done crashing around my city like a wild boar. Arrest him. Send him back to Disneyland.
He once said the past, sometimes, can be like a black hole. If you get too close... it might pull you in. And you disappear. I don't want to disappear.
-You won't.
Who was that woman on the bridge?
-The past.
Someone always has to carry the pain, Libby. Well, now it's your turn.
Uh, when was it, '02? Took down Big Pharma with this bad boy. The King Pharma crash was done from a 7792.
-Actually, I did it from a 7770. But who's counting?
You're Warchild? The Warchild?
Would you rather have that in the hands of the Americans, the nation that never missed a war, or us, the nation who never went to war?

-What's that?
It's the answer to "The snow comes early this year." It's a number problem. Each letter is a number. So I figure out the big number, then I break it down into prime factors.
"The trees fade in the mist."

Are you not Lisbeth Salander... the righter of wrongs... the girl who hurts men
who hurt women? All those lucky ladies... wives... mothers... sisters. I could never figure it out. Why did you help everyone but me?
I couldn't go back.
You chose him.
