A breath of fresh air in the realm of chapter books that highlight sibling relationships. This Violet Mackerel adventure focuses on Violet and her sister, Nicola, stress over the death of a ladybug, and frustration over a science project. I love the way the author touches on how Violet is affected by her brother and sister's recent personality changes. A refreshing, realistic, relatable, and delightfully kind story of siblings supporting one another through their individual challenges. It starts off a tiny bit slow, but definitely makes up for it with valuable content.

The Violet Mackerel books are fantastic beginning chapter books or read-alouds for any age.
