At sixteen, Mina's mother is dead, her magician father is vicious, and her silent heart has never beat with love for anyone--has never beat at all, in fact, but she'd always thought that fact normal. She never guessed that her father cut out her heart and replaced it with one of glass. When she moves to Whitespring Castle and sees its king for the first time, Mina forms a plan: win the king's heart with her beauty, become queen, and finally know love. The only catch is that she'll have to become a stepmother. Fifteen-year-old Lynet looks just like her late mother, and one day she discovers why: a magician created her out of snow in the dead queen's image, at her father's order. But despite being the dead queen made flesh, Lynet would rather be like her fierce and regal stepmother, Mina. She gets her wish when her father makes Lynet queen of the southern territories, displacing Mina. Now Mina is starting to look at Lynet with something like hatred, and Lynet must decide what to do--and who to be--to win back the only mother she's ever known...or else defeat her once and for all. Entwining the stories of both Lynet and Mina in the past and present, Girls Made of Snow and Glass traces the relationship of two young women doomed to be rivals from the start. Only one can win all, while the other must lose everything--unless both can find a way to reshape themselves and their story.

This book is a reasonably well-done retelling of Snow White. While I found it to be a little toward the meh side, I can see how others will likely enjoy it more than me. The twists from the original story are captivating and worthy of a "That's cool!" kind of remark. The book is well written and though I found myself less fond of it I think anyone who likes the type of genre ought to try reading this book. Keep calm and read on!

This is the second retelling of snow white I have read this year! Both had very different twists to the class story and I thoroughly enjoyed this book! I love the characters and the storyline overall I loved the premise of the story!

Beautiful, dreamy story with well-written visuals and interesting twists. The ending was predictable and cliché, but ultimately quite satisfying. The world building also didn't feel quite complete-- it was hard to fully understand and immerse myself in this fantasy world. Despite these flaws, I still enjoyed the book. I was able to finish it all in a day, and if you can ignore its shortcomings I would recommend to anyone for a quick read that lingers pleasantly after reading.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was a new twist on the classic Snow White fairy tale, weaving Mina's story into Lynet's and explaining the occurrences with ease. The writing style was beautiful, although the plot took dark turns at times. The lesbian romance that replaced the in my opinion much overused prince-meets-helpless-princess-in-need scenario was light and wonderfully done. I'd definitely recommend reading Girls Made Of Snow And Glass!

When I first picked up this book, I made a prediction. It actually turns out that I was right, which was pretty satisfying. Going along, I felt that the combination of the author's own ideas and the "original" plot was nicely mixed together. The story was unique, but catching enough with the hints. The chapters shift between the story of Lynet (the princess) and Mina, her stepmother. Not-so perfectly human, the two journey the ups and downs together as the dawn of ascension draws closer. Which of them will take/keep the crown?

Interesting idea, but a slow read.
