It's not quite what I was expecting based on the book description. I was hoping more for mysteries about books, this was more like mysteries that kinda have books in them...

The fifteen short mystery and crime stories in this compendium will keep the reader turning the pages. All the stories are engaging ... perhaps because they involve books and bookstores. When may we expect the sequel?

' Jeffery Deaver, C. J. Box, Ken Bruen, Reed Farrel Coleman, Peter Blauner, Loren D. Estleman, William Link, Laura Lippman, Anne Perry, Mickey Spillane and Max Allan Collins, Andrew Taylor, David Bell, John Connolly, Nelson DeMille. ' Quite an awesome collection of genre writers. Interesting to read the Columbo story, written by his co-creator.

"... All I know is that, at some point, a character [in a novel] becomes sufficiently famous to pop into existence and when they do so, they materialize in or near the Caxton Private Lending Library & Book Depository. They always have since the original Mr. Caxton set up the first depository ... in 1492 ... he did so when some of Chaucer's pilgrims turned up on his doorstep in 1477. ... Once he became convinced that they were not actors or lunatics, he realized that he had to find somewhere to keep them. He didn't want to be accused of sorcery ...and he had his enemies: where there are books, there will always be haters of books alongside the lovers of them." (p. 447)
