We've heard so much about the Titanic, much less about the Lusitania which was torpedoed off the coast of Ireland in 1915, just before the American entry into World War I.
This is a novel, but the author has done her research. There are many details about the advance warnings to passengers about making the crossing at all, the readiness of the ship and crew for disaster, and the suggestion the Winston Churchill, Lord of the Admiralty at the time, was not averse to putting the ship in peril just to prove to the United States that their participation in the war was needed. And of course there is a love interest, and some well-written vignettes of passengers both fictitious and real.
