"The physics of vulnerability is simple: If we are brave enough often enough, we will fall. The author of the #1 New York Times bestsellers Daring Greatly and The Gifts of Imperfection tells us what it takes to get back up, and how owning our stories of disappointment, failure, and heartbreak gives us the power to write a daring new ending. Struggle, Brene Brown writes, can be our greatest call to courage, and rising strong our clearest path to a wholehearted life"--
"With her 2010 TED talk on the power of vulnerability (over 18 million views), her bestselling books on the transformative gifts of shame and vulnerability, and her inspiring call for wholehearted living, Brene Brown has changed the cultural conversation. Her work has been embraced by Oprah Winfrey and corporate leaders alike making her a highly sought after public speaker. For Brene, the conversation about vulnerability and shame naturally evolves into a discussion of bravery--its origins, its catalysts, its chemistry. How we are brave. What constitutes bravery. What activates the impulse to be brave. And how to recognize where our own "hero's journey" begins--in the depths of failure, disappointment, heartbreak, and grief--and how, once we grapple with our story, we are able to rise from those depths and determine how we want our story will end"--

Brown finally outlines how to make mistakes and learn from them, which may be the hardest step to growth. While the book doesn't actually outline how to deal with the painful mess, it does encourage us that we'll get something valuable out of it and be conscious of how we integrate learning into our lives.

I'm not sure that the audiobook is 100% the same as the written book, but the audio was good. Brene has taken the time to understand vulnerability in her work in general and especially expresses the art of emotional vulnerability (as well as boundaries) in this audiobook. Literally, it's stuff we never think to do because not addressing our fear or hate initially blocks us from being able to connect in love with the people we interact with. Also, she has some of the most amusing stories. Great listen.

A friend recommended this one so I decided I'd grab it from the library. I didn't know much about the book (although I've heard a TON of great things about the author), but really enjoyed it. One thing that stood out to me (and I hope to integrate into my daily life) was the practice of stating "the story I made up is...". This is HUGE! So many hurt feelings are due to either unsaid expectations or stories we tell ourselves (i.e. 'The hubby said that or did that because... {you fill in the blank about something you are telling yourself}.). I think this literally can be a game changer in relationships - but obviously it requires communication and vulnerability. I would give it an 8 out of 10.

For anyone that is having issues: You must download the OverDrive app onto your mobile device such as iPhone or Android device. You must download the app and install it from either the Apple app store, or the Google Market. Once it is downloaded and installed, you must create an account using your library card. Once that is done and you have logged into your account, you will be able to check this out and it will download the 7 part MP3 files that are encoded to only play in OverDrive to your device. You will then be able to listen to it. The files expire after 21 days.

I enjoyed Brene Brown's witty, thoughtful TED talks, and listening to this audiobook is like listening to an expanded version of them. She shares her methods for helping people learn to be vulnerable, get to the core of what they are feeling, and ask for what they need.

Self-help that actually helps! A fun listen, this relatable book is read by the author who offers techniques that can help you raise self-assured young people, communicate well in your relationships and figure out what to do if you mess up at work.

Fantastic. Listening to Brené read her work is the only way to take it in. She is hilarious and hearing her speak her experiences and wisdom is a lot of fun and very educational.

Not only a self-help book, Brene's Rising Strong is an inspirational, anecdote-filled ode to all those who have faced challenges in their lives (ie., all of us). Brene is an eloquent writer and speaker who gets right to the heart of the matter. She doesn't take any crap, and she doesn't give any. Her technique is well-founded in research as well as biographical experiences, and is attainable for the reader no matter what their background.
Rising Strong encourages us to take the hits-and hit back harder. It's a worthwhile and powerful (with just the right amount of humor and sarcasm) for anyone!
