A great mix of politics and romance.

This book was extremely popular a few years ago. After reading it, I can confidently say that it truly lived up to the hype. A compelling story, a well-rounded and developed main character, and a romance that didn't seem forced. A great book that I highly recommend.

The absolute best book every. Its my favourite, right ahead of Divergent. And the rest of the series is just as amazing.

A fiercely stubborn red-head, America, lives in Illea, a post-war US. Prince Maxon has come of age to marry, and the competition begins. The selection is a competitive race for the prince's hand between all of the adoring girls in Illea aspiring to become the Princess of Illea. 35 girls are chosen. There is only one winner. Who will win the prince's heart, and the crown?

Not a big fan of love triangles where the MC is all, "Oh, I just cant choose. They are both so great!" This book didn't lean too heavily on that but it was definitely there. I did find the world and society pretty interesting though. Overall, I'm conflicted.

The premise was interesting, but the book just didn't deliver. The main character is so unlikable that caring what happens to her in the story is challenging. Great cover though.

I love this book series so much. It captivated me so easily, right from the first page. Witty, creative, dramatic, and so descriptive, The Selection easily makes its way to my Top Five Series of All Time list. I was so sad when it ended, and will be forever hoping for more. Amazing story, love it!!!

The Selection by Kiera Cass is a fairly typical young adult novel. We're introduced to a strong heroine as she competes to win a "Bachelor"-like contest in a future and post-apocalyptic world. It reminded me of the "Hunger Games" trilogy but with ball gowns.

As someone who felt the strains of financial struggle as a kid and a teenager, I understand the importance of doing something that isn't your cup of tea to ensure your family is taken care of at home.

"One can never help being born into perfection" i whispered.
He came close, wrapping an arm around my waist so that we faced each other. His nose tickled mine. He ran his fingers across my check so gently it seemed he was afraid i might break.
"No, i don't suppose you can,'' He breathed
With his hand holding my face towards his he lowered his lips to mine and gave me the faintest whisper of a kiss.
Something about the tentativeness of it made me feel beautiful. Without a word, i could understand how excited he was to have this moment, but then afraid at the same time. And deeper then any of that, i sensed that he adored me."
