A pleasant sounding collection of tunes that is very much acoustic guitar driven. Mellow in nature, easy and nice to listen to from front to back. This was kind of my introduction to Beck; not sure how different or similar this particular album is to his others works

In the Beck canon,I find this just passable but listenable. There a passages that sound very Sea Change like, and a lot of this is just navel gazing. This artist is always doing it his own way,but a lot of us are losing interest in this artist. He better come out with a killer release (he still has it in him),or he will become an artifact.

Wonderful set of songs--Beck at his best.

This year's Grammy winner despite Kanye's objections.

really good album. If I were to travel at the speed of light, I'd listen to this album.

All the B-sides from Sea Change in one album! What a poor follow-up from Modern Guilt and Sea Change (which it is a pale shadow of).

According to my Spotify play counts, this was my favorite album of 2014.

Beck's 12th album is not, as some contend, merely a retread of his mopey "Sea Change" or the album of lifetime, as some idiot said. His first album since "Modern Guilt," it is a slice of mellower, morose Beck. As Stephen Colbert asked recently "Why Beck sad?" Given that it's been 20 years since "Loser," a song which led many to dismiss him as a gimmick, he has a lot to be happy about. Beautifully arranged (with strings by his dad) and played (by members of his long-time backing band), it does veer into hazy, occasionally boring territory and I do miss funky Beck, but even if it doesn't break new ground the way his albums used to, it's a very good, mid-career effort that plays well especially in the morning (duh) and in the evening. He could've called it "Mellow Gold" if he hadn't already used the title. "Mutations" is my favorite of his more acoustic, introspective work.

I personally prefer Beck's ballad side ("Ramona" from the Scott Pilgrim soundtrack), so I enjoyed this entire album.

As a whole, the album is relaxing and soothing. Many songs produce a calming style, never really going heavy. The music is beautifully orchestrated and balanced with Beck's vocals.

I like Beck alot, going back to his "I'm a loser, baby, so why don't you kill me" days. Part of my interest in him is his willingness to expand or at least change his musical sound/style experimentally. Here, I applaud his effort but find it a mixed blessing. Some of it, frankly, gets boring to me.

I guess giving this 4 stars is like someone disliking the Beatles "Let it Be", not because it was bad music but because it didn't reach the heights of Rubber Soul/Revolver/Sgt. Peppers. So compared to my favorite Beck albums, maybe it would deserve a "2". But to all music....4 works well. Favorites include: "Unforgiven", "Country Down" and "Waking Light".

It will be interesting for me to listen to this a month from now and see where I stand.
