This is a 2010 television drama directed by Patrick Collerton and written by Alan Plater.
It is about a strained family and social relations in wartime from a viewpoint of Joe Maddison---a shipyard worker and World War I veteran who serves in the Home Guard during the Blitz while his son and son-in-law are enlisted for oversea service.
The events and conversations in the film seem superficial and don't ring my bell at all.
Besides, the performances of the major actors appear mediocre and shallow.

I tried to watch this movie, but gave up: I could not understand the accent. Even that wonderful actor, Derek Jacobi, was unintelligible. OK, English is not my mother tongue, but I have had no problem watching old British movies. It seems British actors in the last twenty years prefer much more to sound like Eliza Doolittle instead of thriving to emulate Henry Higgins. What a shame.

Interesting piece, with lots of thoughtful parts. A bit of a hidden gem.

This is so good. Another great role for Kevin Whately with Robson Green and Derek Jacobi in supporting roles.
Written by the late Alan Planer who also wrote the Inspector Lewis series {also starring Kevin Whately} and A Very British Coup.
A great evenings entertainment.
