I am the parent of three kids who love to read and I try to read books to recommend to them. This is a book I would recommend to children as it is an excellent blend of fiction and historical reality. The author has chosen a (true) historical topic, that of ravens at the Tower of London, and blends it by introducing us to a young boy whose father is Ravenmaster, charged with caring for the birds.

The author includes a brief description of how she came to choose this topic and a bibliography. There is also information for parents and teachers to access reading guides.

This book will give children an idea of what life was like in 18th century England, especially that of children with parents and orphans, why people were imprisoned in the Tower of London, how the king was the one who decided on someone's guilt or innocence, and it touches on the reasons England fought wars with Scotland.
