Actively one of the most poorly written books I have ever read. Please, avoid the mistake I made and have the sense to judge this book by its cover. About as erotic as a piece of particle board and as frightening as a jar of jam...

A must-read if you're a fan of psychological horror or "creepy pasta." There are no monsters here, no slashers, just the slow creep of the narrator's mind. I would love to see this as a movie.

I did not enjoy this book at all. I read it because it was on the reading list of a book discussion group that I participate in. The characters seemed to engage in pointless outbursts of anger; there was too much profanity, and too many annoying literary references. The plot, if there was one, was incoherent at best. I have noticed other readers enjoyed this book. I honestly do not know why.

I thought this one of the best horror (or 'weird', if you prefer) novels I've read in many years -- part ghost story, part haunted house, part cosmic horror, and a lot of psychological dread. The sense of place (and season: a sweltering New England summer) is particularly strong; the refusal to wrap up clues, motifs, and plot threads is not going to be to everyone's taste, but it works beautifully for me in this case.

An amazing novel from an author who I think is worth following, but has an uneven, a bit repetitive, and increasingly involuted body of work. I really hope she follows this up with more in its vein!

I didn't actually get through the book, I found Sarah to be a bit boring and the first 1/3 that I did read was all over the place. There was nothing there to keep me going.

Properly spooky.
