I studied in Harbin, Heilongjiang Province, the former Manchuria (Jpn Manchukuo). My uni studies did not include the atrocities the Jpn committed there in medical experiments (Unit 731). I will watch this doc and report back.

Documentary mentions the horrific tragedies the occurred on both sides of the Eastern front. It delved in to how certain groups were displaced in the lower sections of the soviet union by Stalin, who thought certain cultures might posed a threat to him. Another reason I enjoyed this documentary was in part to it talking about how the Ukrainians, Gypsies, and Soviet people were mistreated and feared for their lives. Typically documentaries focus on the Jewish atrocities, and while this one did, it also gave credence to other nationalities.

Much needed counterbalance to the ww2 history, which is lopsided towards Europe.
