How anyone could rate this higher beats me.

Acting was superb. Not the average thriller but I thought it was okay. It lacked in details about her father & was a bit too slow in some scenes. I liked that it wasnt two masterminds up against eachother, made for an interesting view on the story.

The setting is impressive - the best part of the movie actually, exactly like real life - because real houses and real homes, including all the actual accoutrements of those family's real lives (dogs, tools, toys, furniture, etc) were used in the movie. Some of the people from the actual community where the movie was filmed were in it as well, including the two leading children.

And that's what made this movie enjoyable actually, the use of a real-life set rather than some stylized, over thought, Hollywood wannabe fabrication.

The story had some decent bits too, but people in such a community would never have been so nasty and hardened to the heroine and her family's plight, so don't believe what you see in this movie as the truth about such people because it's far from it. This is just Hollywood as usual, always adding untrue, unkind, and often violent drama where it just isn't needed. A kinder, gentler, more truthful story of such a community (that could have still included drugs and a dead man's hands), would have served up just as well.

Really excellent gripping work. I saw this twice in three days at the Tivoli. Fantastic. Jennifer Lawrence in her third film. This is down home Ozark tale, dark foreboding in mood. Great, great. Music half-way in is some FINE blue grass picking old-timey stuff. Can't say enough good.

A fairly decent portrayal of an extended, inbred family of hill billy trailer trash redneck meth cooks [I mean this in a GOOD way!]. The girl is okay and her 6 year old brother and 12 year old sister are okay. Everyone else is about what you'd expect when ten generations of first cousins intermarry and load up on meth. I mean that in a GOOD way. I debated with myself over whether to give it five stars instead of four because of her thinking of joining the army to solve her problems. If she'd actually done it as would have happened in real life, this would have been a five star movie.

Slow moving and grim movie. Did not care for this one.

A riveting tale of bleak prospects in the Ozarks that does justice to the excellent novel by Daniel Woodrell on which the film is based. A younger Jennifer Lawrence delivers a performance that indicates her depth of talent still to be developed.

Dark and semi-disturbing but I really liked it. The characters were quite believable. As a long ago police dispatcher this movie about a rural, poor, southern Missouri community is a very realistic description of life.

A well acted movie but the mystery part of the movie is still a mystery. Not enough info was given out and still lots of questions were unanswered.
