Summary
Add a SummaryLena and Ethan have lived through the day that they had been dreading for months, Lena's sixteenth birthday, but not without some sacrifices. With Macon's death, Lena is depressed and lost, and there doesn't seem to be anything that Ethan can do to help her, despite his own experiences with grief. Then Lena begins pulling away and taking risks, and Ethan, still not aware of what really happened to him the night of Lena's birthday, can't understand why. So he digs deeper into Caster lore and his mother's research to look for a way to save Lena and what they have before it's too late. But once you've entered the Caster world, you can never go back, and some secrets Ethan uncovers will put him and everyone he loves in far more danger than he can imagine.

Comment
Add a CommentThe saga continues with our mortal/caster couple, Ethan & Lena. Lena has slipped into a deep depression following the death of her beloved uncle Macon Ravenwood. She feels responsible for his death due to a choice she made to save Ethan's life. She finds herself distancing herself from Ethan & running into the arms of a new guy, John Breed. Who, or what, is John?! Is he light or dark? He's not the only new character on the scene. Welcome Olivia "Liv", Marion's caster library keeper-in-training. Although Keepers are supposed to be neutral, Liv can't seem to keep out of the middle of things, & she chooses to give up her future as a Keeper in order to save a life. Thanks to Ethan, Liv, Linc, & Ridley, Lena is able to once again return to her former self. But given the events that happened in the tunnels, will things ever be able to go back to normal again?!
Out of the 4 books in the series, this one was probably my least favorite. I'm not a fan of pity parties, & that pretty much describes Lena thru most of this book. We learned a bit more of the reason behind her change in personality which helped me to cut her some slack. My frustration w/Lena thru most of the book made it hard for me to enjoy some of the other parts of the story. The book ends in such a way that it left me "ok" w/how book #2 played out & ready to continue the story in book #3.
Age recommendation: 14 & up (dark spiritual elements, magic)
On a scale of 1-10 stars, I give it 7.
the second book in my favorite series! I'd recommend this book for 12 year old's.
After the incredible and shocking ending of beautiful creatures comes the next book Beautiful Darkness! Ethan Wate, a young boy who believed his town was so lifeless now wishes that had been accurate. He was introduced to a secret world of supernatural beings such as casters, incubuses and seer’s. After Lena suffers the great loss of her uncle Macon she becomes distant. Things in Gaitlyn just continue to get stranger when Ethan begins to have visions that only he can see. The book introduces new characters. John Breed an unfamiliar guy who just seems to be constantly reappearing and causing trouble. Liv is a girl who is working in the library. And many more! Ethan, Link and Liv get caught up in the underground passageways of the caster world where nothing and no one are what they really seem! Lena and Amma are keeping one very large secret from Ethan that can change so much!
Beautiful Darkness was a pretty good book it wasn’t amazing but it definitely wasn’t bad. The book is just a little slow, it took me a while to read it, but I had a friend tell me that the second book isn’t the most interesting, so I went in knowing what to expect of it. The whole book isn’t boring but there are certain sections of the book that just drag on too long. Once you get past the second book you are back to being interested again though! Stick with the series because it is different than most books.
I think the first book was a bit better, but altogether i still loved it :)
Lena is so annoying in this book! Other than that, I really love this series!
Not as good as first book .... Hated john...
whao! amazing book
Over first half was really slow. By three quarters into the book, it really started to take off. I didn't read the first book. But looking forward to reading the last one. I would still recommend reading this book, just warning you it takes a while before it takes off. Thanks.
I also just finished beautiful creatures...but according to the comments to beautiful darkness....i'm not sure if i'll enjoy it....
This book was so amazing! When I finished read the first book "Beautiful Creatures" I was so excited to read Beautiful Darkness. Now that I have I really I want to read Beautiful Chaos!
