This book does not cover scratch-built means of electrically motorizing a bicycle.
It's based on how to choose, install, adapt and improve commercial E-BIKE KITS.
Because of their specific-application design-efficiency and relative simplicity in mounting, these kits may be preferred, over attempting to create an entire drive from scratch.
The many variables in hardware selection and/or fabrication, that is difficult to gauge its durability as an assembly, requires much trial-&-error experimentation. This may make such a pursuit prohibitive.
For these reasons, this is an excellent guide for choosing a kit.
It includes good advice about what features to look for, that better enable a bike to accept and perform with an electric motor retrofit.
Some information about small, gasoline engine kits is also provided.
Besides offering many suggestions for performance enhancements, the author is also thorough in how to make those facets of your installation that you have control over, much more dependable and trouble free.
