The writing is extremely simple, there's something odd about this author, and I've never figured out what it is. It's grandma-safe, there's no sex/drugs/violence, or it's written at grade 3 reading level, or the story is abnormally short. Could it secretly be written by a robot? Wasn't there a famous novelist who wrote an entire book without using any adjectives?

It reminds me a bit of Anne Perry, I suspect there's a moral lesson going on somewhere. There's a lot of human flaws being forgiven (not in a complex, High-and-Mighty Literature way, don't worry).

Nevertheless, I enjoy this sweet and dumb series. At least our girl detective is not too plucky. And strangely it's not sexist, the male and female characters share equally in characteristics traditionally assigned in a gender-based way (like courage, domestic skills, good looks, loving family, impulsiveness, crankiness, etc.).

Another excellent book in the Regan Reilly series by Carol Higgins Clark!

As with the rest of her books I have read, I couldn't put this book down until I finished it, because I wanted to know what was going to happen next.
