Carole Seddon hates Christmas. So her neighbour and best friend, Jude, drags her along to go shopping at a local store called Gallimaufry. Then, a few days later, Gallimaufry is burnt down and a body is discovered in the ashes. It seems like a tragic accident, but no-one can die of natural causes when a gun is involved.

This is such a cute series! It reminds me of the "Agatha Raisin" books. It's always fun to read about cranky, middle-aged women trying to solve murders in the archetypal English village.

You know when you see a new book from a fun favourite author and it's going to be the first thing you read when you get home? What's the word for that shh-quiet-in-the-library "eep!" sound that you make just before snatching it off the shelf?

As with all books in this series, it is a "can't put it down" book.
