Add a CommentI don't know what DOR means in Hindi, but in Romanian means "to miss somebody". This story has a lot of missing, young women missing their husbands, missing the protection of their parents, the protection of the law. This is yet another movie about the life of a girl who gets married and become the possession of the groom family. She is treated as dirt and it is a body without a voice. Then another woman from a different culture emerges and changes the mind of the innocent girl forever. Eye for an eye, becomes an eye that can forgive the losing of another. The story is about a beautiful friendship between two destinies that are united by a tragedy. I like the end, is like an open door towards potential, a promise of escaping the hardship of a life as a widow and the chance to have a new beginning as a free spirit.
Initially big on shots of women staring into the distance while music tells us what they're feeling, DOR (2006) manages to find the right balance between preachy and superficial. Lovely, lovely locations & strong acting, enlivened by Shreyas Talpade's prankster/assistant role, so it's not just a women's film. 8/10
Beautiful story though in the end a bit dramatized. Good performance by the cast.
