Gabin is as fine of an example of Everyman as there can be in the world of the cinema. All he was asking for was time and space to sort out his life. Life is not a straightforward proposition - for any of us. Was it really too much to ask? A tragedy, poetic, a hint of Shakespeare, a FRENCH film from start to finish. I am hesitant, therefore, to watch "The Dark Night", the 1947 remake with Henry Fonda.
