Highly recommend this book, especially for anyone who loved A Wrinkle in Time. It's a modern, realistic time travel story.

Recommended age: Probably 9+. The main character is a 12 year old girl, it discusses having "crushes," and there are some violent scenes (bullies and a car accident).

For what age child would this be an appropriate read aloud?

Could time travel be real? Miranda is convinced it is not. However, she starts to receive notes that can only come from the future. This subtle science fiction novel is sure to pique the interest of any young reader looking for mystery, friendship, and a bit of science.

Miranda and Sal are childhood best friends, until one day they aren't. One incident causes ripples that impact the rest of their lives in unexpected ways. This book makes you stop and think about the significance of every day encounters and the importance of friendship and family.

Miranda is a middle schooler in New York City in the 1970’s who starts receiving mysterious notes from someone who seems to know the future. Miranda’s fascination with Madeleine L’Engle’s A Wrinkle in Time is a large part of the plot, as Miranda contemplates whether the stranger’s note really came from the future. As her mother prepares to be on the game show $20,000 Pyramid, Miranda tries to figure out who the notes are from, what letter the person wants her to write, why her friends all have more money than her family, and why her other friend Sal abruptly stopped talking to her. Somehow middle school friendship drama, the problems of growing up in a big city, and theories about time travel all come together seamlessly in the story.

Miranda's just trying to get along in sixth grade and help her mom prepare to compete on a TV game show, but strange things keep happening: Her best friend gets punched for no reason and then stops talking to her. Someone steals her hidden apartment key. And then there are the mysterious notes; notes that mention things that no one but Miranda could know about and things that haven't even happened yet; notes that seem to be predicting a tragedy that only she can prevent. Puzzling, compelling, and ultimately moving, this book will keep readers thinking long after the last page.
