#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLING AUTHOR VINCE FLYNN RETURNS WITH HIS MOST EXHILARATING POLITICAL THRILLER TO DATE, A PULSE-POUNDING TALE OF ESPIONAGE, COVERT INTELLIGENCE, AND COUNTERTERRORISM.

The action begins six days after a series of explosions devastated Washington, D.C., targeting the National Counterterrorism Center and killing 185 people, including public officials and CIA employees. It was a bizarre act of extreme violence that called for extreme measures on the part of elite counterterrorism operative Mitch Rapp and his trusted team member, Mike Nash. Now that the initial shock of the catastrophe is over, key Washington officials are up in arms over whether to make friends or foes of the agents who stepped between the enemy's bullets and countless American lives regardless of the legal consequences. Not for the first time, Rapp finds himself in the frustrating position of having to illustrate the realities of national security to politicians whose view from the sidelines is inevitably obstructed.

Meanwhile, three of the al Qaeda terrorists are still at large, and Rapp has been unofficially ordered to find them by any means necessary. No one knows the personal, physical, and emotional sacrifices required of the job better than Rapp. When he sees Nash cracking under the pressure of the mission and the memories of the horrors he witnessed during the terrorist attack, he makes a call he hopes will save his friend, assuage the naysayers on Capitol Hill, and get him one step closer to the enemy before it's too late. Once again, Rapp proves himself to be a hero unafraid "to walk the fine line between the moral high ground and violence" ( The Salt Lake Tribune ) for our country's safety, for the sake of freedom, for the pursuit of honor.

Plot was interesting. Writing pretty good. Characters rather thin and extreme (extremely crazy, extremely perfect, extremely shallow), with the main terrorist being the most interesting in the book. But the plot relied too much on the crazy irrationality of one terrorist to move it forward. Still would have rated it higher were it not for the constant bludgeoning with pro torture, far right themes that stopped the action in it's tracks and contributed nothing to the plot. The author could have made his points in a much more integrated fashion.

Another excellent 'Mitch' novel. -I've recently read the entire series and found them all very good and gripping.

Flynn's stuff just flows so well. Mitch Rapp is quickly joining the ranks to the the super elite status level - standing side by side with Jack Ryan, Charley Castillo, Bob or Earl Swagger or any of those Clive Cussler heroes. Big fan - please sir - may i have some more?

Reality to fiction to reality, it will come to pass.

I actually think this Flynn book is better than the most recent two or three. There is no doubt that Flynn has the ability to keep your attention and write a page-turner, even though the formula is exactly the same from book to book. I admit that I'm pretty liberal politically and I can suspend my natural inclinations and ignore most of his bashing of everyone that leans left of Michelle Bachmann. However, this time he calls anyone a hypocrite who does not support torture, but does support abortion. He does this several times and it makes no sense to the context of the novel. Even from Vince Flynn, that's crazy talk! Leave your political agendas at home and just write the story.

Unfortunately another 'phone in' by Flynn, must be bored with the whole 'writing thing' or fulfilling a 30 book contract or something.... This makes the last 4 I think? The first half dozen were pretty good. Up until his wife got blowed up good. Not sure which one that was though....

Mitch Rapp has been the hero and many preious thrillers. This is an exciting read and should be a must for someone looking for action and intrique.
