After Zack loses his mother to cancer, he, his father, and stepmother move to a new house in Connecticut, later finding out that their house has been haunted before. Every person in this town lost their lives to a bus accident in 1958 except for one passenger. Zack’s house is located at the crossroads of the town, the same place the bus accident took place. The man behind this tragic bus incident was a mad killer who later died when his car hit a tree in a crash. Ever since his evil spirits have been circling the tree. A powerful lightning storm hits the tree and releases all the malevolent spirits into the world. The Crossroads is a page-turning and heartfelt ghost story that kept me engrossed from page one. It was an exciting and thrilling story to read that was filled with plot twists and nail-biting suspense. Every time the reader learns something new about what’s happening, the mystery slowly starts to unravel.

The Crossroads is a scary book about a boy named Zach whose family moves into his father's hometown in order to start a new life. Their new house is located right in the crossroads of the town where a bus accident in 1958 took the lives of all but one of the passengers. Zach makes friends with Davy, a boy who lives on a farm nearby and begins to feel that their move might work out, but Zach's stepmother starts to research some of the strange incidents that begin occurring in and around the crossroads. This is a really creepy story that should interest anyone who likes scary mysteries.

Deftly done, this book delivers enough chills for most young readers. The plot involves generations of misdeeds and a boy who becomes the catalyst for resolution. Numerous ghosts with varying personal motives are all nonetheless entertaining. A few loose ends and an oversimplified stepmother-son happy ending are minor flaws. Who knew that trees could be this creepy?
