THIS IS NOT A GAME is a novel built around the coolest phenomenon in the world. That phenomenon is known as the Alternate Reality Game, or ARG. It's big, and it's getting bigger. It's immersive and massively interactive, and it's spreading through the Internet at the speed of light. To the player, the Alternate Reality Game has no boundaries. You can be standing in a parking lot, or a shopping center. A pay phone near you will ring, and on the other end will be someone demanding information. You'd better have the information handy. ARGs combine video, text adventure, radio plays, audio, animation, improvisational theater, graphics, and story into an immersive experience. Now, one of science fiction's most acclaimed writers, Walter Jon Williams, brings this extraordinary phenomenon to life in a pulse-pounding thriller. This is not a game. This is a novel that will blow your mind.

Excellent book...a very insiteful novel about the political and technological realities that are evolving daily. A terrific read.

This is not Walter's best work. The character development here is a far cry from that of the Praxis books. I was drawn to this book because of the tie in with ARGs. Well, that connection is pretty pointless and lackluster. The scope of the book feels pathetically small. There are some occasionally beautifully written passages, and a plot twist that I did not expect, which rescue the book. Otherwise, the whole book feels like it was published too soon, and needed at least another hundred pages worth of fleshing out.

A most unfortunate and boring book, where they author appears to be enamored with corporate sociopathic types as the archetype heroine or hero.

Truly a trivial book, hardly worth reading.

This is a great book! Super interesting protagonist, thrilling plotline(s) an A LOT happens. Really good, clever dialogue and realistic portrayal of people, relationships, motives etc.

Kind of hard to believe this book was written over three years ago -it is VERY contemporary and weirdly seems to have predicted some current world events.

All in all a very exciting read and worth checking out if you like thrillers, semi-science fiction (but not really), noir-ish whodunnits etc.
