I really disliked this book, to the point that I stopped reading it part way through with my daughter and had her pick out a new book. I had a conversation with the children's librarian about it when I returned it.

Basically Dad otter isn't very sensible and takes his young family on a journey to find a new home when he's annoyed in the old one.

While yes they have an adventure and see things they wouldn't have seen otherwise, the bigger impact I saw was a father who destabilized the family, put them in a situation of food insecurity (and when the wee otters complained of having almost no supper before going to sleep hungry they were told to be quiet!!!! In fact any time they did or said anything to stick up for themselves they were rebuffed. They were also put in situations where they didn't even have a safe-place to sleep. All through this the mother is silent. Then at the end of it all they end up back at their old home and the mother praises the father to the children saying how wonderful he is for having found them such a lovely home.

It was utter rubbish.
