Saw him perform at the PNE in Vancouver in the 70s, wonderful. I think Galveston has to be one of the finest performances that any singer/musician has ever made. Brings back memories of the US involvement in Vietnam, even though I know it was written for another war. Also sorry Glen and his loving family are suffering the effects of Alzheimer's, makes his contribution to music so much more treasured.
If you're hankering to hear some really first-rate country music from the 1960s and 70s, then check out this "All The Best" CD, featuring the singing talents of Glen Campbell (who also played guitar and co-wrote some of these tunes, as well).
A 4-time Grammy Award winner, Glen Campbell (born 1936) sings some of his greatest hits on this 25-song disc, such as - Gentle On My Mind, Galveston, Wichita Lineman (watch video), and By The Time I Get To Phoenix, to name but a few.
After fifty years in the music business, Campbell has recorded 70 albums and sold 45 million records, worldwide.
Way back in the mid-1960s, Campbell was actually a member of The Beach Boys for a short while.
Sad to say - Today (now 78 years old), Glen Campbell permanently resides as a patient at an Alzheimer's long-term care and treatment facility.
