Boston anesthesiologist Jeffrey Rhodes' life turns upside-down when a mother and her newborn die as a result of the anesthetic he administered. The malpractice suit destroys him financially. He's convicted of second-degree murder, and awaits sentencing. In desperation and panic, he jumps bail. Fleeing, Rhodes turns to the widow of an old friend who had killed himself because of a similar tragedy. Together they uncover evidence that both of their cases -- and others as well -- may have been deliberate murders. Pursued by a relentless bounty hunter, the pair race against time to prove and put an end to the work of a madman.
