what a vapid book! I listened to the audiobook and could not subject myself to more than 17 min of it's fatphobia, colorism, classism etc. It may have redeemed itself down the road but I wasn't about to pollute my brain with it's…

"Enchanting, sweet--I have been enjoying Sarah Addison Allen's 'southern fried magical realism.'" - Andrea K.

Imagine if one day you wake up and discover a person in your closet. How would you react? Would you scream? Would you kick them out or would you allow them to stay? Well... Josey Cirrini involuntarily allowed them to stay. Josey Cirrini…

Rich girl Josey finds her life altered for the better when she is visited by Della Lee, a woman from the 'wrong side of the tracks' with whom she should have nothing in common. This was a strange book. I almost feel like the author had…

A engaging story of characters entangled together through their past and present. These characters are memorable, their relationships flawed, and their magical powers ruthless. I've really enjoyed stories by this author.

I REALLY enjoyed this book. Maybe because it offered me some relief from the heavy novels that I have been reading of late. There was some magic, whimsy and as the title would imply, sweetness. I got through it quickly, I liked all of the…

This is a good book to read around Halloween time, because it has an autumn setting, gorgeous autumn-themed cover art, and lots of descriptions of candy & sweet treats. It's a mashup of chick lit and magical realism.

I really liked this book. Even though it was a bit cheesy at times. I couldn't put it down. I read the whole book and that's rare for me. I'm not a big reader, so when i find a book like this its kind of a big deal. It's exciting! 😊

Not as captivating as the Waverley books but I loved it. Very interesting plot. Wanyed so much to slap Josie up side her head and say "Get a Life" but she finally did.

I enjoyed this book, though I liked Garden Spells better. We'll see if Sarah Addison Allen finds her way after the dreaded 2nd novel slump.

Another quirky, amusing and touching book which I really enjoyed - so much that I went looking for, and found, two further books by the author: always a good sign when I'm that impressed :) Loved the wee twist at the end, which I…

Like all Sarah Addison Allen books, this one is filled with complex and lovable characters, magic both large and small, and poetic language. It makes me crave things I can barely name, and enchants me thoroughly. And this one is inspiring…

Josey Cirrini keeps a stash of sweets in her bedroom closet and escapes there whenever she can. Chloe Finley is hounded by books that just appear whenever she needs them. These two people become friends and neither will be the same after. …

This was a great story for a summer time read. A little magic, a little drama, and some interesting characters added to my enjoyment of this book!

The Sugar Queen is one of those novels where I got so immersed in the story, fell so in love with the characters that I was sad that it was over and could not bring myself to read the last chapter right away. I loved Addison Allen’s first…

It was cute - like a modern fairy tale where the sheltered girl is older than what we're accustomed to. Does that mean 30 is the new 15?

Sugar Queen is an entertaining read, but I couldn't get around the fact that the characters were all mature adults acting like they were still 15. It is the kind of story that keeps you interested while you're reading it, but so light that…

Her first one Garden Spell's was much more interesting of an read. I didn't really like the writing of the Sugar Queen. Reading Garden Spell's, I couldn't wait to see what was going to happen next but this was seemed a bit rushed and not…

I did enjoy this book. The author's writing is full of whimsy and, whether it's this book or one of her other titles, it almost makes me want to move to a small quaint town where everyone knows everyone. I was rooting for Josey to stand…

While I really enjoy Sarah Addison Allen, this was definitely the book I least enjoyed. I had a hard time feeling sympathetic towards any of the characters, and the plot felt thin. Not a whole lot happens, to be honest. If you are…

Sweet. It's about spreading wings, opening doors, growing outside the lines we've drawn. It's about new experiences, overcoming, and forgiveness. It is lovely and sweet...but I prefer both Garden Spells and the Girl Who Chased the Moon.

While I enjoyed Garden Spells more, I still really enjoyed this book. It's a quick, easy read; it's a nice escape from reality. And I too fell in love with the house that the character Chloe is in love with. I could see it and wanted to…
