Riveting biography of racehorse Seabiscuit in the 1930's, his owner, his trainer, and his jockeys. Race by race descriptions and especially cliff hanger on whether he would ever get to race against War Admiral.

Fabulous read ! Author had me on edge of my seat during race scenes ! The personal relationships between owner, trainer, jockeys and horse are captured beautifully. This short book reads like a good race... fast and with excellent…

Didn't finish, became too much about horses and the race track, not enough of a story.

Laura Hillenbrand's considerable brilliance as a writer is underscored by her ability to coax into the light what she writes about in the Acknowledgements section of Seabiscuit: "the texture of my subjects' personalities, their complex…

I've returned to this read & even bought a used copy of the film - it's a favorite. The depth Hillenbrand goes to in research & telling this life (lives of the others who come together) is inspiration. For anyone person or age that…

This book chronicles the amazing story of Seabiscuit. Filled with immeasurable details and anecdotes, the book relays the triumphs and hardships of horse racing in the early 20th century. Although written as non-fiction the book reads as…

I've no interest in horse racing, or other sports. But I just read, and loved, "The Boys in the Boat," about the US crew that won the 1936 Berlin Olympics. I knew of this book, and how much others liked it. It was a great book, with…

I really enjoyed Seabiscuit. The story is fascinating and well written with thoughtful parallels between what was occurring on and off the track at this time. At moments I found myself tearing up or a race that was run almost 80 years ago…

Seabiscuit: an American Legend by Laura Hillenbrand is a remarkably well researched and well told story of one of the past century's great sporting legends. To quote Hillenbrand herself. "...these men and this horse are remembered again."

Great book! I thought that reading race details over and over would b boring, but not at all. Stories of the people's lives were amazing. Woven through was history of the 1930s, descriptions of the jockeys jobs and the story of the…

What a wonderful book! Having seen the movie on TV a couple of months ago, and enjoyed it, I came across a comment somewhere about how good this book was, and how you should read it even if you've seen the movie - and how right that…

excellent description of the period. A memorable passage is the description of these tremendously athletic beasts during a race.

With racing season upon us, I read this book; a story of overcoming big odds (of the four legged variety). Us "two leggers" can benefit. I think, though, that the author overstates the case that Seabiscuit's plight was deeply felt by…

One way to spend a few hours on a gorgeous spring day -- Seabiscuit - the book (ya might recall the 2003 flick) on le patio at the Sugarbowl. Couldn't put this book down. It's the story of a motley crew - an attention loving owner, horse…

I wasn't the least bit interested in horse racing but I had seen the movie on which the book was based and thought I would check it out. An amazing story, wonderfully written! I found myself trying not to skip ahead to find out what…

There was a terrific author named Ralph Moody, who wrote books about his family: Little Britches, Home Ranch, etc. He also wrote a book about the Sea Biscuit story. I am trying to request a copy of this book. I heard it was also very good.

This book is wonderfully written and I agree with dustypages 100%. Don't be turned off by the length, subject, or genre because otherwise you will miss out on a memorable, honorable book that will teach you about horses, racing, and life.
