I really liked the first 2 mysteries in this series. May's characters are interesting and his sense of place is first-rate. However, this story is a let-down. I feel like he recycled some of the plot devices from the previous stories. Definitely read the first two (The Blackhouse and The Lewis Man). The depictions of the Scottish islands and the lives of the on those islands will remain long after the details of the mysteries fade.I really liked the first 2 mysteries in this series. Another good mystery by Ian Rankin. This better than the previous book, Standing in Another Man's Grave. I liked the dynamics between Rebus, Siobhan, and Fox. The secrets, lies, and relationships from both the past and the present are used to create an entertaining and engaging story for the reader. As usual Rebus's past casts shadows on the present, and Fox's investigations into that past provides for an interesting relationship between those two characters. It can be read as a stand-alone, but would be best appreciated by those familiar with Rankin's Rebus mysteries.Another good mystery by Ian Rankin. Detective Maeve Kerrigan is a female in a male world. The characters are well-written.The story about whether or not the latest burning victim is part of a serial killing definitely held my interest although the ending was overlong.

Interesting mystery that injects the sensibilities of conservative Judaism in New York City and how it affects police procedures. The main character is a woman who is in search of her past. Her mother, a member of a conservative Jewish sect, left her and her father when the main character was a young child. As the mystery enfolds the woman learns about not only the Jewish faith of her mother, but also gets a lead on the whereabouts of her mother. I look forward to see what the author will do with this character in future stories.Interesting mystery that injects the sensibilities of conservative Judaism in New York City and how it affects police procedures. This is the 2nd in a series by Peter May. The main character, Fin, has once again come back to his childhood home on the remote island of Lewis. The main characters are well-developed and their relationships to one-another are well-drawn. The atmosphere of the islands plays a large part in the story (and had me going to Google Earth to see what they look like). Read The Blackhouse first, it will help you understand the characters and the relationships in this one. This is the 2nd in a series by Peter May. Camilla Lackberg has a good series involving Erica Falk and husband Patrik Hedstrom. The mystery is an entertaining read. Along with the mystery that stretches back to Sweden's involvement with WWII, you get the reason for why Erica had a strained relationship with her mother. However, it seems a bit of a stretch that Erica's mother would be that old.Camilla Lackberg has a good series involving Erica Falk and husband Patrik Hedstrom. The mystery is an entertaining read.
