Add a CommentI found the third of the book riveting, while the first third was confusing and the last third pushed the envelope of credulity a little too much for my taste. What an imagination though.
This is an excellent novel from one of the best Sci-Fi writers.
I'm a SF nut but found this hard going compared to a lot of his other work, it seemd to be really disjointed but did come right towards the end. It hasnt pout me off him thats for sure.
Really enjoyed this book, as I do most of Mievilles work. Reading about the worlds he dreams up is enjoyable as ever. Great book.
Very enjoyable, and conceptually interesting. I've found that I've become more and more fatigued with the China Miéville "genre"--but this book is quite adequately different from his prior work; shifting from fantasy to the trappings of sci-fi was a successful maneuver, and Miéville has created a compelling and engaging tale which doesn't really feel like yet another serving of the same old…. Well worth reading.
Bunch of places
Shelf Talker: After completely owning urban fantasy with last summer's Kraken, Miéville makes his hard science fiction debut--and quickly demonstrates his mastery of that genre as well.
